  • Now let's take Mother Goose, give her a nice pair of shades, maybe a little leather, spike that hair a tad, strap on an electric guitar — and listen to her rock on with veteran Nashville musician Lynn Kitchens. The result is a kick-your-shoes-off recording, Rockin' With the Goose! The real-musician feel of the tracks is refreshing and hip parents will instantly recognize nods to The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top and other greats from the 60's and 70's. For example, "Humpty Dumpty is Journey meets Toto with Chicago sitting in," says Kitchens. The horn section on this album absolutely smokes and Kitchens himself as writer, producer and lead vocalist definitely has the chops to carry this labor of love to fruition. A fun sing-out-loud-roll-the-windows-down vacation CD for the whole family! Catch you on the flip side.

  • H. Lynn Kitchens is another A-list Nashville musician who has updated traditional children's songs. With electric guitar licks and a lot of percussive riffs, Kitchens gives classic nursery rhymes from "Humpty Dumpty" to "Simple Simon" a classic rock 'n' roll treatment, tailor-made for parents and kids who groove on radio's golden oldies stations. Adults can see how many of Kitchens' inspirations — ranging from the Beatles and Phil Collins to Led Zeppelin and James Brown — they can identify.

  • It's been done before, but rarely with this much heart. H. Lynn Kitchens rips through the classic rock universe on "Rockin' with the Goose," dousing "Humpty Dumpty" with a Chicago-style horn section, sprinkling Brit-pop zip over "Simple Simon," and twisting "Bunch of Blue Ribbons" around a Beatles melody along the way. He's got the chops to pull it off, having racked up 35 years playing alongside Johnny Paycheck, Bill Frizell, and Allman Brother Dickie Betts, but best of all, he knows his boundaries. A stick-to-a-single-era sensibility lets him set "Little Boy Blue" to Led Zeppelin-inspired howls, for example, without blowing it to unbearable-sounding smithereens. Part of the fun is singling out specific influences: Is that ZZ Top or Aerosmith he's channeling on "Three Little Kittens"? It's tough to tell at times, but no matter--Old King Cole and his cronies have never sounded cooler.

  • “Rockin’ with the Goose” is a collection of nursery rhymes and folk songs that will appeal to the younger crowd. It will also appeal to those of us who are getting on in years and want to relive our childhoods! Lynn has put together an incredible project with this CD, the amount of work that has gone into it is really astounding. From the opening notes of the prelude to the final note of the last song, it is a listening experience.

It isn’t just another dull collection of the same old nursery rhymes put to almost lifeless melodies that make you want to sleep. You’ll find melodies from modern pop to Celtic, with the titular rock, as well as some serious R&B. The studio musicians are very talented, and you can tell that everyone is having a good time with this project.

“A Medley” is a rocking combination of many favourite Mother Goose Rhymes: Baa Baa Black Sheep, Cat & the Fiddle, Old Woman in a Shoe, Georgy Porgy, Little Miss Muffet, and Mary Mary Quite Contrary. The horns really bring the song to life, adding a whole new dimension for the listener. The arrangement of the rhymes is refreshing and well thought out.

“Jack and Jill” is a wonderfully gritty rendition, and a wonderful introduction to the Blues for the kids. There is just no way that anyone can listen to this and sit still, the music twines itself around you and makes you move. This nursery rhyme has never sounded better, and is sure to become a family favourite.

This is one version of “Rock A Bye Baby” that won’t put you to sleep! Mike Rohas really shines on the keyboards, accented by some more dynamite horn work. The vocals are hardcore, turning a nursery rhyme into something completely new and electric. Be prepared to wake up and rock with this track!

Hats off to Lynn and everyone who took part on this CD, it is a disc sure to be loved by all those who hear it. Make some new memories with your kids while reliving your own childhood, and ensure that the well-loved Mother Goose lives on for a long time to come.

  • Imagine: You are driving down the road, kids safely buckled into their carseats and you're listening to your favorite radio station. Suddenly you notice that your four year old is singing along - WORD FOR WORD - to the latest Smash Mouth or Goo Goo Dolls offering.

Cut to Reality: This happens everyday, in every minivan, everywhere.

Face it, children are like small sponges, soaking in everything to which they are exposed - including the lyrics to some not-quite-suitable songs. And while I admit it was cute the first couple times my own 4 year old sang Shania Twain's "I Feel Like A Woman", there are simply some places you don't want your young ones vocalizing these grown up sentiments - like the grocery store, bank or post office.

There must be a better listening choice out there that satisfies YOUR need for great music with your child's need for fun, catchy, dance inspiring beats!

After experiencing the same scenario with his own niece, H. Lynn Kitchens realized "that most entertainment is too mature for children these days, and the media shoves right in their faces all the time....Kids don't get to be kids nowadays. SO I wanted to give them music that is adult, quality & classic, but let them enjoy some of the best children's lyrics ever written in humankind's history."

And so was born the totally fresh, infectious, QUALITY CD, "ROCKIN' WITH THE GOOSE"!

Taking inspiration from Classic Rock Radio, and the best musicians available (no drum synthesizers here!) he has set the timeless words of Mother Goose to the timeless sounds of the great rock and roll. In his hands, Humpty Dumpty meets Journey, Toto and Chicago! The Three Little Kittens get new life through a ZZ Top drum track! Think Led Zeppelin and Little Boy Blue have nothing in common? Think again!

To quote Mr. Kitchens, "This is Mother Goose for the modern age!"

Personally, my children and I could not sit still while listening/reviewing this CD. The beats, genres and styles are familiar to the adult ear and irresistible to a child. We danced, laughed and sang along! Favorites in our house included "Old King Cole" , "Jack & Jill" and the hippest medley you've ever heard containing "Little Miss Muffett", "Georgy Porgy", "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and more!

Our children are growing up in an era of technology, computers, and reality TV. And many of them have never even heard a traditional Mother Goose rhyme - or if they did, they don't remember them from their first year of life! Sad, but true: Rugrats, Rocket Power and Gameboys are replacing some of the most beloved reading ever written.

So, give your kids AND YOURSELF a gift! Pick up a copy of ROCKIN' WITH THE GOOSE, slide it into the CD player and get up and dance! I have no doubt it will be at the top of their request list for some time to come!

  • When I first received this CD, I expected just another collection of the same old Mother Goose rhyming tunes...but I was pleasantly surprised!

In the CD, "Rockin' With the Goose," by H. Lynn Kitchens, some of the familiar lyrics you'll hear are "Humpty Dumpty," Three Little Kittens," and "Jack and Jill," (which has a great blues tune!)." There are also some that were not familiar to me such as, "Bunch of Blue Ribbons," (one of my favorites!) "Myself," and "Three Ships."

This CD is definitely not just another collection of old nursery rhymes. This is an updated and hip version of those rhymes, each put to various tempos. These tunes are so likeable, that I found myself whistlying the tunes long after the CD was finished playing!

MyParenTime.com highly recommends this CD -- age-appropriate lyrics mixed with the sounds of today's music, makes this CD fun and a refreshing change.

  • Take Mother Goose nursery rhymes and set them to new melodies in the classic rock style of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Chicago, Bob Seger, Otis Redding and others. The result is a musical album of great family entertainment called Rockin’ With The Goose. This is NOT the way you heard these rhymes on your mother’s lap! Written and produced by singer Lynn Kitchens in Nashville, Rockin’ With The Goose is a delightful album of high quality music and musicianship for the whole family to enjoy together again and again.

  • Kudos to songmeister/producer Lynn Kitchens whose recent release "Rockin With The Goose" encapsulates all that is enduring in rock and roll. An extraordinary tribute to the genre, this work offers a unique cross-generational experience for baby boomers and their progeny. That said, it'll kick all butts and rock all worlds. Stellar. arrangement combined with Lynn's vocal performance to make age-old lyrics soar, growl, smile, soothe, snicker and always find a new way to tell their story. It's quite simple, Simon. Buy This CD!

  • This album puts Mother Goose rhymes to modern pop, rock, R&B, blues, and Celtic sounds. 'ROCKIN' is a CD that will appeal to kids as well as adults. The familiar stories are all here: 'Humpty Dumpty' 'Three Little Kittens' 'Cat & the Fiddle' 'Old Woman in a Shoe' 'Georgy Porgy' 'Little Miss Muffett' and 'Jack & Jill' are just the start. There's also 'Bunch of Blue Ribbons' 'Simple Simon' 'Little Boy Blue' 'Sixpence' 'Wee Willie' 'Rock A Bye Baby' 'Old King Cole' 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' and many more. The album runs for over 50 minutes. Singing is good and the music great. It is mostly rock, from classic rock to blues rock to a bit of hard rock. The CD will be a valuable resource for teachers, babysitters, and parents. It is a way to introduce say the blues style to kids and then play the rhyme that uses that genre. It's a great tool and maybe this idea can spin out more stories [say AESOP'S FABLES] set to more varied forms of music such as Jazz, Country, Latin, Folk, Gospel, Reggae, and many other styles and forms. Recommended.

  • Rockin' With The Goose" - What a concept: The old goose tales as told through rock and roll music. It amazes me that no one has thought of this before. But it's just as well, because nobody could have done it better than my friend Lynn Kitchens. Not only will kids dig the tales, they'll be exposed to the great music that has defined a generation and a half. A new generation of true rock and rollers. What a concept.

  • In all my years in the record business, the two common threads I found woven into all successful projects were originality and quality. "Rockin' With The Goose" fulfills both requirements. What a great concept. This music is new and familiar at the same time. The kids will love it and so will you. My hat is off to you Lynn. Thanks for the fun and a job well done.
